College in Mathex

Ruapehu College entered three teams in this year's Wanganui region Mathex competition - a contest where teams are put into a pressure situation to answer mathsrelated questions in a time space of 30 minutes. The competition took place at Wanganui High School last month, with many schools competing. Four levels of competition were open for entry, Form one and two, Form three, Form four and five, and Form six and seven. Ruapehu College entered teams at all levels. The final results were: the Form three team - G. Beaz-

ley, P. Chittenden, M. Tailbyand D. Mitchellcame 17 out or 33. Form four and five team - M. Wisheart, G. Rogers, H. Burgess and D. Parke came 24 out of 30. The Form six and seven team, consisting of T. Tidswell, G. Koorey, R. Evans and A. Boulton performed creditably by being placed second out of 24 entries, and received certificates of merit 1 for their achievement. The competition is run every year by the Wanganui Mathematics Society. Ruapehu College is hopeful that more teams may be entered in future years, with a greater degree of success being obtained.
