Waimarino election nominations
Sitting Ohakune Mayor Biil Taylor has competition in the October's local body elections in the form of property developer Jim Goldfinch. Mr Goldfinch says that he is interested in the job and feels he can do it. "I was chairman of the Ruapehu College hoard of governors when we were responsible for handling large amounts of money," he said. Mr Goldfinch said his standing had nothing to do with the performance of the present council. "Though there is always room for improvement the council of tomorrow is not going to be any better than the council of todav." he said. Sitting councillors Marv Wright. Mike Wiggins. Errol Sue. Margaret Home. Ellen Gould and Allan Goddard are renominated. and Noel Akapita. John Briggs. Ron Burrows, Ben
Goddard, Jim Goldfinch. Sue Murdie. and Bruce Thompson are nominated as first-time councillors. I.ocal member for the King Country Electric Power Board Ian Strachan has also been renominated. There is also a two-way race in Raetihi with sitting Mavor Garrick Workman challenged by his deputy John Compton. Sitting members Tom Punch, Margo Webb, John Compton, Keith Haitana
and Ken Summerhays have been renominated. New nominations include Barbara Dobson. Vic Taiaroa. Paul Dekker. and Elizabeth Ryland. Waimarino County Council chairman Bruce Berry is standing down after 1 6 years on the council and nine as chairman. Renominated as county councillors are Doug Bennett, Malcolm Whale, Con Heinold. Gavin Jones. Ian McCoubrie and John Bennett. New nominations are Dave Griffiths and
Jeremy Trebilcock. As eight are needed no election will be necessary. Doug Bennett has been renominated for the Wan-ganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board. Sitting member Dorothy Scarrow and Joan Akapita have been nominated for the Wanganui Area Health Board. Nominee for the Rangi-tikei-Wanganui Catchment Board is Ken Robb. replacing Hal Manson who is standing down.
