Raetihi defeat Bulls

Raetihi beat Bulls 22-6 in a Wanganui combined rugby championship division two match on Saturday. The first 20 minutes of the game were fairly even but Raetihi soon struck and had 12 points on the board in just a few minutes. Gabriel Te Moana went over for a try after a good back movement, and minutes later was there again. Both tries were converted by Geoff Fahey. Play see-sawed back and forth with a slight advantage to Raetihi. Bulls had opportunities at times but bad handling prevented them scoring.

Raetihi players to do well included halfback Kevin Martin, Gabriel Te Moana, lst 5 Gavin Johnson, Dave Wilcox, Marsh Tangaroa, Rangi Bishop, Chris Bennett, Paul Trow, promoted from the senior reserves, and Thomas Waara, still at Ruapehu College, who came on to replace Te Moana. Scorers: G. Te Moana (2), D. Wilcox, tries, Geoff Fahey two conversions and a penalty goal, Thomas Waara penalty goal. Bulls: Peter Woolston try, Nevan Young conversion. Raetihi will probably play Waverley next Saturday as curtain raiser to the golden oldies game at the Raetihi showgrounds.
