Third championship in row to Ohakune-Karioi

Ohakune-Karioi Rugby Club climaxed a great season with a fine win against Kaierau on Saturday to ciinch the Wanganui championship for the third consecutive season. Ohakune played into a strong wind in theTirst half which was dominated by forward struggle. Kaierau played well but managed only a try by Steve Lockett.

Ohakune-Karioi backs opened up the game in the second half and within three minutes Steve Gordon went over for a try which was converted by Lachlan Harding Before long OhakuneKarioi dominated the game and Kellick Harding and Henry Morgan scored tries. Both were converted by Lachlan Harding, who also drop-kicked a goal.

The final score of 2 1 -4 was a fitting finale to a hugely successful season. Winning the Wanganui Rosebowl three times running has never been done before and was achieved by playing good attacking rugby. A measure of the team's quality can be gauged from its 84

tries scored, more than twice as many as the next highest team. Lachlan Harding also created a new record of 207 points for the season. The Waimarino can be proud of this fine team many of whom are young and still keen and will be around for a while yet.
