South Island visit for college group
The last few months have been a hectic time for the Ruapehu College Maori club. For some time the 40 students have been involved in selling raffle tickets and performing in concerts to raise enough money for a week long tour of the South Island from 1 1 to 1 5 August. The pupils range through forms three to seven. They will be accompanied by five adults on the trip
which will take them from Picton around the South Island. On Monday 1 1 August the group will depart from Ohakune by coach at 5am, due to reach Wellington in time for a 10am sailing on the ferry. From Picton they travel to Queen Charlotte College where they will be received. A games afternoon against the college is scheduled, followed by more travel to the
Picton Marae where they will perform. The following day the club will travel to Christchurch via Kaikoura where they will be welcomed onto Te Rehua Marae. On Wednesday they will spend the morning sightseeing and then travel to Aranui College in the afternoon. A lunchtime concert is scheduled, then an afternoon of sports. After that it is back to Te Rehua for a concert. The next day will be spent sightseeing along the West Coast, with another concert in Greymouth on Friday night.
On Saturday, the last day, the group will travel back to Picton in time for the 7.45pm ferry to Wellington After stopping for a big feed, they will travel north and arrive home early Sunday morning. After such a busy schedule, one and all may feel like a holiday away to get over it!
