District trout fishing licence fees rise

An increasing gap between licence revenue and the expenditure required to manage the Government-controlled Rotorua and Taupo trout fishing districts has resulted in a $5 increase in the new adult full season licence. The new licence becomes available on I July and anglers will also pay G.S.T. on the nine months it is valid for between l October and 30 June 1987. All other adult licences have also been increased, but apart from the G.S.T. component all children's licences remain at the cur-

rent price. Short term licences for periods prior to 1 October will not incur G.S.T. The Rotorua-based Conservator of Wildlife, Mr Dave Stack, said children's licences had been held down in order to encourage young anglers. He also said that for the past three years, increases in the the licence fees paid by Rotorua and Taupo anglers had been held to a minimum. However, it was now necessary to cover the shortfall in licence revenue to meet expansion in fisheries management and research investigations in the future. The full price list with the current price, the new price and the new price plus G.S.T. reads as follows:-

Adult Whole Season - $20, $25, $26.88. Child Whole Season - $4, $4, $4.30. Adult Monthly - $13, $16, $17.60. Adult Weekly - $9.50, $12, $13.20. Adult Day - $3.50, $4.50, $4.95. Child Day - $1, $1, $.10 . A change in the regulations for the new season will allow shoreline fly fishing at Lake Okataina during the winter months. Anglers will be permitted to fish the northern shoreline between landmarks at Te Koutu Point and west of the Okataina Lodge. The Ohakune lake, which was previously included within the Closed Season, was^ opened for winter fishing, on 1 July 1986.
