Successful meeting for Waimarino marae

The Waimarino region northern marae zone committee met at Maungarongo Marae in Ohakune recently for their annual general meeting. The northern marae zone consists of four marae: Tirorangi (Karioi), Raetihi, Pipiriki and Maungarongo. The object of the meeting was to distribute the $1000 subsidy received from the Wanganui Trust Board each year. The committee, consisting of two representatives from each marae discussed the manner in which the money was to distributed. -

Mr Ritchie Mareikura, the committee's former chairman, said that there were up to 20 people in attendance. All could have a say in the money's distribution. Mr Mareikura has been the chairman since the committee's inauguration in 1981. He has recently resigned and his position has been filled by Mark Cribb from Raetihi. Bubs Hibbard is the new secretary, taking over from Mrs Herewini of Raetihi, who had been secretary since 1981.
