At the third qualifying round for the Waimarino Golf Club Championships on 29 June the haggle of the day was the Medal. Quite a good field turned out in spite of the weather and the scores showed that Waimario golfers are a hardy breed. Senior results: R. Southee 70. T. Geraghty 71, R. Pearson 71, D. Windle 72, K. Summerhays 73, S. Magee 74." Junior results: 1. Strachan 69, D. Herewini 71, 'J. Hammond 71, F. Bright 72, K. McDougall 74. J. Kennedy 74. Ian Strachan with the best score of the day won the roarer's mug. Twos were scored by G. Allerby (9), J. Ennis (14). Club Championship qualifiers for 1986 were: Senior: 1 J. Summerhays, 2 G. Allerby, 3 N. Cranston, 4 D. Windle, 5 J. Ennis, 6 T. Tapp, 7 S. Magee, 8 B. Drinkwater. Intermediate: I T. Geraghty, 2 K. Summerhays, 3 R. Pearson, 4 R Southee, 5 A. Berridge, 6 D. Herewini, 7 G. Imhoff, 8 C. Turner. Junior: I B. Goile, 2 G. Ennis, 3 T. Frederick Jnr, 4 J. Kennedy, 5 N. Clarke, 6 I. Strachan, 7 A. Robinson, 8 A. Smith. Improvers: I B. Haack,2T. Donghi. 3 B. Clement, 4 C. Heinold. The Alpe Trophy for the best two qualifying rounds was won by T. Geraghty 67 - 68 nett.
