Stock firm merger
The merger between Wrightson NMA and Dalgety Crown has been approved by the examiner of commercial practices but excludes southern North Island areas. This means that Raetihi and Ohakune branches, which are part of Wanganui, are not included. At present local staff are in the dark about what if any will be the implications for them of the change. Even with theexclusion of some regions the takeover will create a single stock and station agency that will handle about 70 per cent of New Zealand's auctioned wood and livestock. It has been suggested that under the merger proposal about 1000 of the 5000 people employed by the two companies will lose their jobs, partly from the closure of duplicated branches.
