Turoa art awards soon

Ohakune will again host the Annual Art Awards Exhibition which will be on view to the public from Monday 31 August until 12 noon Saturday 6 September. The exhibition will be held in the upstairs lounge of the Ohakune Club in Goldfinch Street. The Club has again gen-

erously donated the use of their premises to house this eighth exhibition. This Exhibition is organised by Turoa (Ohakufie) Art Awards Committee. Last year over 165 entries were received from some 91 artists. It is expected that a similar number will be received this year.

The Awards are open to all artists normally resident in the central North Island area from Hamilton in the north to Levin in the South. Schedules and entry forms are available from public libraries, public relations offices or Trustee Savings Banks. Alternatively send a stamped addressed envelope

to The Convenor, Turoa (Ohakune) Art Awards, 49A Arawa Street, Ohakune. The closing date for entries is Friday 15th August. The prize of $1000 will be awarded for work judged best over-all. The winning entry will be selected from the winning entries in the following awards: oil colour $500, water colour $500, other medium $250(acrylic, pen and wash gouache etc), and local district $250. This is a special award for artists resident in the boroughs of Ohakune and Raetihi, and the Waimarino County. Awards are sponsored by Ohakune Borough Council, Waimarino Publishing Company, Trusteebank Wanganui and generous private sponsors. Entries in last year's exhibition were judged by Mr Brian Carmody from the Academy of Fine Arts Wellington. The premier award went to Mr J. Scott of Wangan for-his picture Sonnet Series Line 7 Light Denied. The sincere appreciation of the organising committee and of the artists themselves go to those who sponsor the awards and to the increasing number of people who support the exhibition.
