Karioi mill Winstone's

The Karioi pulp mill on State Highway 49 between Ohakune and Waiouru is now solely owned by Winstone Ltd after a $1.4 million share deal. Winstone-Samsung Industries Ltd. began 10 years ago in a joint venture between Winstone and Chonju Paper Manufacturing Co Ltd of Korea. With the agreement due to expire in the New Year the share deal was transacted and in future the mill will be known as Winstone Pulp Industries Ltd. Under the new arrangement none of the staff of 1 30 employed at Karioi will be affected. The mill has now reached its optimum output of 120,000 tonnes of pulp annually after earlier teething problems. Liaison in saies and technical matters will continue between both parties.
