Whakapapa, Turoa open?

At Whakapapa yesterday eight to 10 cms of snow fell at Tongariro National Park headquarters overnight and the Bruce Road was closed early on Monday. The Happy Valley beginners' tow was open yesterday afternoon and will be open this week. It was hoped that other facilities would be open today. Snow had been falling at Turoa filling the gullies, but

strong winds left some ridges exposed. The Ohakune Mountain Road was closed yesterday at the nine km mark. It has been provisionally decided to open the skifield on Friday 4 July probably with the Giant Chair running.
