Waimarino soccer

Waimarino United beat Waiouru Celtics 2-1 on Sunday in a closely fought match at Ruapehu College. The conditions were very cold, wet and muddy which did not favour good football and play was scrappy at times. The score was 1-1 at halftime after a John Laurenson goal for Waimarino. After halftime Waimarino brought on two reserves which strengthened their defence. During the second half Waimarino had the best of the play. They had two or three chances but were kept out by mud and good goalkeeping. Finally John Laurenson slipped in on a through ball and, too fast for the Celtics defence, scored his second goal.
