Rural areas offered grants
A company which sells many of its products to farmers is offering grants to help rural communities maintain their public amenities. The Tordon Brushkiller rural grants were announced recently by Ivon WatkinsDow Ltd as a contribution towards keeping country community life afloat in a time of declining farm incomes. They are particularly aimed at smaller or isolated rural communities which rely heavily on local contributions for funds. The grants are not expected to exceed $800 per applicant and will make a
contribution towards maintaining or equipping rural amenities which might otherwise suffer the neglect of hard times. Examples given include new equipment for the pony club, repairs to the roof of the community hall kitchen and fence replacement at the domain. The grants are not intended as general contributions to running costs or new capital costs. Applications are invited from bona fide rural committees and organisations. All applications should be on the official grant forms and must be received by Ivon Watkins-Dow Ltd, New Plymouth by 31 August 1986.
