Queen's Birthday pig hunt
Out of 15 original entries, only five pigs were weighed in at the Waimarino Pig Hunting Club's Queen's Birthday hunt. Ricky 'Bonkey' Vaughan of Raetihi won the first prize of $60 for the heaviest boar. Mike Craig of Raetihi and Wayne Treweek of Ohakune were second equal and received $30 each. Mike Craig won the prize of $50 for the heaviest sow and Moon Munroe won $25 for second place. The club is hoping to have several small club hunts before the main competition of the year, the Labour Weekend hunt. As prize money for the Labour Weekend will total about $1500, the club is looking for sponsors for prizes.
