Catchment rates concern

Ohakune's town clerk is to investigate the council's legal position as a collecting agency for Wanganui Rangitikei Catchment Board rates.

The catchment board's rate set for Ohakune this year is $31,000 which the council has to collect from ratepayers. This is about five per cent of the council's rates this year. Mayor Bill Taylor said it was the council which was

criticised for the high rate from the catchment board when they appeared on Council rate demands. The town clerk was to investigate whether the council had to collect the rates for the board.
