Shared ownership of alpine lodge
A new ski lodge to be opened soon uses an unusual ownership concept. Breckenridge Lodge, being built in Miro Park, Ohakune, will be owned by 50 shareholders, 40 of whom have already signed up. Occupation of the lodge will be open to shareholders, their families and guests. I he 10 remaining shares are available at $10,500 each, and these may be sold at a later date or passed on through families. The lodge has 27 beds in seven bedrooms, all of which have a mountain view. There are high quality facilities including sauna, fully-automatic kitchen, undercover parking, ski storage and workshop, family
lounge and a quiet room on a mezzanine floor. The idea for Breckenridge Lodge originated with Peter Entwistle and Kelvin O'Hara from Mt. Maunganui. In the past they had rented a house in Ohakune, but when it was no longer available, they decided to buy. However they found prices were expensive so they got some friends together and developed the idea of the lodge. It will not be run on a commercial basis but is a non-profit making venture. Building of the $425,000 lodge began in March and is due to be completed in late June. Builders from John Ebbett Associates, Tauranga are working on the complicated construction of the Interlok design.
