Library provides a range of services
A library 's purpose is to provide as many people as possible with a good supply of the sort of literature they want to read, as cheaply as possible. Not only does the Oha-
kune Library buy its own books, but National Library in Palmerston North provides additional variety. A van comes two or three time a year to change approximately 300 books. We also send away for special displays which are of
interest, for instance hydroponics, as at present, the recent health and herb display and other subjects such as farming and travel. There is now no charge for library books from Ohakune Public Library. However, if books become overdue and there is no response to the librarian's attempt to recover them, it will be presumed that the books are lost. An account will then be sent to the borrower. Borrowers should realise that books are very expensive these days. Hard-cover picture books for children can cost $ 1 7.00, hard-cover fiction or nonfiction for adults, at least $20.00, large-print books $ 1 7.50, and many others are in the $30.00 range, and more. Please bring them back so others can borrow them. If borrowers cannot find a book they want the librarian, Mrs Colleen Newton, is happy to send a request to Palmerston North. Many use this system for pleasure, or for study of particular subjects.
