Complaint about dog fees

Councillors received a letter of protest from Mrs Bea Barnes of Ohakune about the 'massive increase' in the cost of dog registration. "This will only result in a lower number of dogs being duly registered and refutes entirely the purpose of the National Hydatids Council in the eradication of Sheep Measlesand Hydatids," Mrs Barnes said in her letter. Cr Malcom Whale said at the meeting the high cost registration was in the price of the drugs given to dogs. The town clerk advised the actual cost of registration of a dog was about 20 cents.
