On Sunday night, Ohakune Police appreheilded three youths for burglary of the Ski Shed in Goldfinch Street, Ohakune, after a passer-by alerted Police. The offenders took ski jackets, ski trousers, ski goggles and woollen socks, which were recovered later by police. Two 19-year-old Ohakune youths will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 1 May, and a 1 3-year-old will be dealt with by the Youth Aid section. An 18-year-old has been charged with receiving stolen goods and will also appear on 1 May. * ★ ★ Police would like to hear from anyone who saw unusual activity at the Ohakune Kindergarten over the weekend. Wood chips from the garden were thrown around the playground and a double-glazed window at the kindergarten was smashed. Ohakune Police Sergeant Neil Coker said that the kindergarten was used as a playground in weekends but would like to hear from anyone who saw unusual behaviour.

★ ★ ★ Ohakune Police are investigating the burglary of two houses at Pokaka, north of Horopitp, between Easter and Friday 18 April when food and bedding were taken. Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen unusual vehicles in the area. ★ * ★ Sergeant Coker said that people should remember to lock their doors at night, even if they were at home. This follows a burglary during the early hours of Wednesday morning at a Moore Street address. The occupants were awoken by noises, investigated and disturbed offenders who ran off with $100 cash. "Locking doors is a fairly basic security precaution which people should take at night," said Sergeant Coker. ★ ★ ★ A vehicle was stolen from Campbeir Crescent, Waiouru, on Saturday night. The vehicle, a red 1972 Ford Falcon with a beigecoloured roof, was driven to Taihape, around the streets of the town and halfway back to Waiouru before breaking down between 2.30am and 3am. Waiouru Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the vehicle. ★ ★ ★ Two American cyclists staying at Waiouru Motor Camp on Sunday had their $1000, 18-speed bicycles stolen. The cyclists were part of a group of nine who are travelling around New Zealand.
