New butcher's shop in Ohakune

Brian Treweek, who has just opened his own butchery shop in Ohakune, plans to offer fresh meat and friendly service. Brian had his own butchery next to Skiers Inn from 1971 but sold out five years ago. He has been working at the Winstone Samsung Pulp Mill 'at Karioi until deciding to reopen his own shop three months ago. He has had to start all over again and buy expensive equipment, some of which was hard to come by. One such machine is a bowl chopper which is used to cut sausage meat. They are about $45,000 new but Brian was lucky to find a second-hand one in good condition at a lower cost. He also has a mincer and a sausage maker, mainly for hunters who want their venison or pork turned into sausages. Brian is not hiding his equipment and has it on view in the shop where he serves customers. "People can see everything that's getting done,"he said. Brian has spent the last three months preparing his shop, and decorating it with plants, stuffed fawns and the metallic gold machines which make it very attractive. Fresh meat will be available six days a week, from 7am. He closes at 5pm and is open until 6pm on Fridays.
