Red Cross collection smaller

Red Cross week in the Waimarino saw a successful collection, though donations were down on last year. Spokesman Nigel Buck said $700 was collected, $290 from Raetihi and the rest from Ohakune. He put the slightly reduced figure this year down to the economic climate. He said that there was a good team of collectors who managed to cover all of Raetihi and most of Ohakune. "We are very grateful to the enthusiasm of collectors. This is a good area for Red Cross collections because people realise most of the money is used here," he said. If anyone who still wishes to make a donation they can be sent to Red Cross, Box 33, Ohakune, or left at local chemist shops.
