LETTER

Mountain Road Dear Sir, So the Waimarino County Council wants to put a toll on the Mountain Road. Well the 'skiers' have lots of money so lets make 'em pay; but what will they be paying for? The cost of snow clearing is approximately equal to the number of car journeys up the road during the ski season. Therefore the toll should be one dollar per car. Now consider the cost of collecting the toll, the construction of a shelter and barrier. Man the barrier eight hours a day, seven days a week. Provide wet weather gear and cooking facilities. Account for and bank money, then audit the account. I estimate that these costs will more than double the toll. Now what are the skiers paying for? I believe this is just another outfit trying to rip the industry off.
