Local rider wins place in pony club championships
Sunday 7 April saw a good turnout of local riders at Ongarue for the season's last area trials. Many rode in beginner and noviceclasses, with Serina Taylor and Michelle Eades bringing home rosettes, and Maria Fredricksen from Raetihi doing well in the area trial dressage. Nicola Tebay, although unable to ride this time, has also done well in the dressage in both previous trials. The lady of the day though was definitely Tania Taylor who, on her pony Ricochet, became a member of the team to ride at the pony club championships in May at Hastings. It is many years since the Waimarino has been repres-
ented, and perhaps a first for the Ohakune branch. Congratulations Tania, we're proud of you and Ricochet. Fellow team members will be Cynthia Taylor, Kaitieke, and Warren Shields, Taumarunui, with Lisette Ginn, Taumarunui, as reserve. Before Tania started pony club in 1 982 when she was 1 1 she had never ridden a horse. She started that year and gained her D certificate. In 1984 she rode Dot to complete a C certificate. At 1 5 this young rider has come a long way with Ricochet, competing in one day events, shows and at pony club events with great success. We wish Tania and the rest of the team the very best of luck at Hastings.
