WAIOURU RUGBY

The rugby season opened in Waiouru at the weekend with Waiouru seniors playing Taihape Pirates in a cold, southwesterly wind. At half-time the score was 3-3, after penalties from each side but at full-time the score was 10-3 to Waiouru. Waiouru did much attacking in the first half, with Taihape failing to take full advantage of the strong wind. Waiouru had the wind behind them in the second half and did most of the attacking. They approached the line several times but couldn't finish off their attacking moves. The two penalties for Waiouru were scored by first-five-eighth Errol Brown. Outstanding players in the game were Mike Armour, Errol Brown and, forward, 'Fu' Haerewa.
