Eric Mosen led a full life

Raetihi's RD 6 rural delivery man and identity in the town, Ron Mosen, died recently at Waimarino Hospitai. Mr Mosen had lived in Raetihi since he was about four years old when he and his mother, Olive, moved there after his father's death. She was originally from Raetihi. For the last seven years, Mr Mosen has travelled nearly 200 kilometres a day, five days a week on the rural delivery run to Horopito, down Middle Road and around the Ruatiti area. Although he was 72 when he died, Mr Mosen was not going to retire until the end of this year. His wife, June said: "He didn't want to give up work, he was a very fit man." In earlier days, Mr and Mrs Mosen enjoyed travelling around the North Island staying in their caravan. Mr Mosen loved deep sea fishing at Mayor Island in the old days. At both the Waimarino Club and Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club Mr Mosen was a keen snooker player. Last year he was runner-up of the snooker competition singles at the Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club and winner of the eight-ball pairs at the Waimarino Club. He had a love of driving heavy trucks and in 195S he bought the G. Stewart trucks. In 1967 all the local transport firms amalgamated and became Transport Waimarino Ltd. Howeverin 1971 the company went into' receivership. Mr Mosen worked at Reynolds Motors until

1976, and drove for Kui Griffin for a short time before becoming rural mailman. All of Mr Mosen's three children and three stepchildren were born in Raetihi but now live in different parts of the country. A Salvation Army funeral was held for Mr Mosen at the Raetihi Baptist Church on 6 March. He had been an Army member all his life. Pall bearers were his son, Reg Mosen; cousin, Daude Wise; brother-in-law Len Seaman and his snooker mates — Lofty Dowman, Graham Fredericksen and Rex Winter.
