Annual 72-hole matchplay golf soon

The Waimarino Golf Club will be holding their annual 72-hole matchplay tournament on 19 and 20 April. This popular event, which is sponsored by Dominion Breweries Ltd, has been rescheduled earlier in the golfing year than usual. A top class field will compete for the $2500 prize list, including former championship winners R. Sisson (1969), G. Allerby, (19731977) from Waimarino, J. Gatley (1975-78-79), exWaimarino and M. Wells (1982-84). The tournament begins with an open qualifying round on Saturday morning which will be followed by a 54-hole match-play. All matches will be on handicap

except the eight qualifiers who compete off the stick. The Waimarino Club is prepared to assist with accommodation with billets and free caravan points. Entrance fees include lunches on both days and an evening meal on Saturday night. The field will be limited to the first 120 paid entries.
