Local couple wed 60 years
Friends and family from near and far gathered at the Ohakune Club on Saturday to celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of Frank and Alma Mischewski. The couple were married in Ohakune 60 years ago yesterday at the old St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which is now the Ruapehu Lion's Den. The only surviving member of their wedding party, Mrs Mischewski's brother, Jack Pettersen, came from Napier for Saturday's celebration. Mr Pettersen was groomsman at the 1926 wedding. Both Mr and Mrs Mischewski have lived in Ohakune since 1909. Mrs Mischewski's family moved from Dannevirke to the Ohakune Junction in that year, and Mr Mischewski and his family came from Inglewood to live in Old Station Road, Ohakune. They married after about seven years of courtship. They had four children and now have 1 1 grandchildren and seven great-grandchild-ren.
