Successful pig hunt

The Waimarino Pig Hunting Club held a very successful hunt over Easter from Friday to Monday. There were 19 entrants and 1 1 good pigs were killed, as well as four massive eels trapped in secret locations by young boys. The heaviest boar prize of $60 went to Robert Hawira and Mike Craig. Winstones opened up their block for the weekend and most kills came from there. The club is grateful for this privilege. There are several hunts coming up for the local club and for the Labour Weekend hunt, the major one of the year, they hope to attract a sponsor. Results of the Easter hunt were: Heaviest boar/barrow: Robert Hawira, Ohakune and Mike Craig, Raetihi, 1751bs; second heaviest, Kevin Phillips, Rangataua. Heaviest sow: Donald Parkes and John Brown, Ohakune; second heaviest, Robert Hawira and Mike Craig. Cash prizes were provided by the club.

Spot prizes won by Bonky Vaughan,jacket,and Gerry Bidweli, jacket, provided by Lion Breweries; Robin Haugh, Henry Toho, Leon Berridge, Robert Hawira snr, beer prizes provided by club. Eels: 1st Rii Haitana, 2nd Dennis Richards and also James Peni and Dale Haitana.
