A two-to-one subsidy was then given by the Government. Voluntary labour in building the track was supplied by the Wanganui Tramping Club, Ruapehu Lions Club, Navy personnel from Auckland and park staff. The chairman of the Four Friends Trust, Mr Arthur Bates, will officiate at the opening. Local dignatories and members from the Tonga - riro/Taupo National Parks and Reserves Board are also expected to attend the opening.
