National park centennial logo
An official logo has been chosen for next year's National Parks Centennial. Designed by the National Publicity Studios, the logo depicts mountain peaks encircled by a stylised koru. The colours are sky blue and white with a black koru border. National Parks Centennial Commission chairman Sir Patrick O'Dea said the logo had been adopted because it incorporates a scene readily identifiable within the parks. and also recognises the parks' Nlaori heritage. The koru, which symbolises the gifting of New Zealand's first national park. Tongariro, by the Maori chief. Te Heuheu Tukino IV
in 1887- can also be seen as the bush and the sea. New Zealand was the fourth country in the world to develop a national parks system and next year's milestone celebrations are
intended "to make New Zealanders fully aware of their rich heritage," Sir Patrick said. "We want as many people as possible to participate — the parks belong to all of us. "
