Waiouru rugby gets into gear

Pre-season rugby training has already begun and officers appointed, for the Waiouru Rugby Football Club. This year the president is Major Peter Sullivan, who takes the place of Major Jim Coubrough who has left Waiouru. Major Sullivan has been posted to ATG from Trentham and has had a long involvement in both playing and administering the game. Until Major Sullivan arrives in May, Lieutenant Colonel Bob Storey, former player, coach and president of the club, will be acting-president. Club captain is Captain Gordon Fraser. He has recently arrived in Waiouru and has had much playing experience. He replaces Sergeant Major Les Jackson who becomes the club's vice president. Continuing as secretary is Captain John Liddell, an exdivision one and rep player from Auckland. The club has three senior teams, including one senior A team in Wanganui division one. Three Regular Force Cadet teams and one under21 team will be competing this year and the club also supports the Waiouru Primary School rugby team. Games will begin on 5 April and secretary Captain Liddell said the club is looking forward to a good season. The club always welcomes new members.
