Board of governors report
At last Thursday's Ohakune Borough Council meeting Cr Margaret Horne presented a report from the Ruapehu College Board of Governors. She said that the procedures to appoint a new principal were underway but the job of assessing candidates was likely to be long and . arduous and an appointment might not be made until the second term. The mayor, Mr Bill Taylor, said that many in the community had expressed concern at the level of industrial action taken by secondary teachers. Cr Horne said howeyer that staff at Ruapehu College had taken action to enable school to carry on as usual. "We should be appreciative at the level of duty shown by the staff to the school," she said. She went on to say that each year it was increasingly
difficult to allocate class budgets, as each year the money shrank and inflation continued.
"We will be seriously thinking that we must have fund-raising for text books soon," she said.
