Pipiriki tearooms hearing

The Waimarino County Council will hold a hearing on 12 March about the proposed building of the tearooms and shop at Pipiriki, councillors decided at last week's council meeting. Although no objections have been received two people made submissions and they will be able to present these. The Lands and Survey Department plan for the development of the village will also be discussed at the meeting. The council hopes to make application for the sewerage scheme for Pipiriki by 31 March to qualify for the Health Department subsidy which ends on that date. The Pipiriki Incorporation have already accepted the scheme in principal and incorporation members and residents of Pipiriki will meet in March to discuss it. At the recent county meeting Cr Doug Bennett moved that the engineer proceed with the sewerage scheme to the stage of the planning and application for the subsidy. Pipiriki Incorporation member Bill Wright from Waikanae, and deputy chairman Mark Cribb from Raetihi attended the council meeting. Mr Wright explained the incorporation's concerns and proposals for Pipiriki. He said they would like to see the village re-zoned for residential and commercial purposes in the future. "The shop complex is just a beginning, we want to utilise the whole of the old Pipiriki house site," he said. He pointed out that the incorporation was mindful of the quality of the proposed tearoom's design and said they were happy to comply with any reasonable requests about its design.
