Shearers trained at local course
They weren't quite as fast as the Waimarino Shears competition held the week before, but they could be in a few years time. This was a group of novice shearers taking advantage of a week-long
course of shearing mstruction held recently at Doug Bennett's woolshed on Ngapakahi Road, Raetihi. Taking the course was Blenheim orchardist, Percy Barrett. In his spare time, Mr Barrett is a New Zealand Wool Board shearing instructor.
Throughout the week, the group was given tips on basic shearing techniques and were helped with individual problems. About 900 sheep were shorn during the week. The shearing course is run annually by Federated Farmers.
