Army fire-fighting on display

One of the most interesting displays at Saturday's Desert Fair will be that of the Waiouru Camp contingent of the NZ Army Fire Service. The main job of these highly trained permanent and volunteer fire personnel is to prevent and fight fires within the Army Training Group area at Waiouru. However, because of the

area's remoteness the Waiouru service helps civilian brigades from Mulvay's Corner through Rangiwaea and Tangiwai and to Three Sisters in the north. The varied work of the Waiouru brigade includes motor vehicle accident rescues, coverage of the Waiouru airfield and forest and scrub fires. At the Desert Fair the Army Fire Service will demonstrate rescue and forest fire fighting from helicopters, and aircraft crash fire control. There will also be static displays.
