Low prices good for wine lovers
As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, and the present difficulties facing the New Zealand wine industry are giving the consumer some good buying. Discounting is providing the opportunity to experiment with classical grape varieties at affordable prices. An example of this is Montana Marlborough Pinotage 1983. True to its varietal character, this wine is a bright and lively deep red. The over-ripe fruit bouquet is typical of a good pinotage. The wine is not astringent, which makes it a good choice for those who prefer a softer, red wine. An interesting imported
wine tasted recently, also suiting those unaccustomed to drinking red, is the Beaujolais Nouveau 1985. The colourful bottle typifies the fresh, floral flavour and nose of this wine. Its release, on 15 November each year, is eagerly awaited by the wine enthusiasts of Europe. With
a brilliant raspberry colour, and fruity palate, this wine is widely acceptable. These were just two of the excellent wines presented recently at a Waimarino Wine Club meeting. We hope to share further wines with you in future. Waimarino Wine Club
