Country music in Ohakune
The Ruapehu Country Music Club open day was held last Saturday at Ohakune School and visitors attended from a number of centres in the lower North Island. This is the third year the club has run the open day, though Anniversary Weekend is usually chosen, and
invitations are sent to all clubs within travelling distance. Noeline Churton, secretary of the Ruapehu Club, said the aim is to get together, sing and enjoy the day. "It's not how good you are that counts — it's enjoying yourself and having a good time," she said.
Those who attended certainly enjoyed the music as well as the barbecue and the general . picnic atmosphere. The club is after new members and they emphasise they do not have to be good. If you are good you can go on to awards throughout New Zealand, but the main thing is to enjoy yourself.
The band on the day was a mixture from all the groups attending but included Colin Richards and Ivan Wiari, two members of local band Intro. Anyone interested in joining the country music club should contact Noeline Churton, 58-210, or Bob McGinniss, 58-553.
