New kindy head

Ohakune Kindergartens original head teacher, Vera Lawton, has come back to the kindergarten after being away for three years. The kindergarten has been without a head for a year and Sue Kumeroa, who taught there since it opened in 1981, has been relieving head teacher. Vera has spent the last year in Murupara where her husband, Ian, is a teacher. He is hoping to move to

Ohakune soon, where he and Vera own a home. Vera is pleased with the development of the outside play area since she has been away. "It looks good and it's exciting — it's nice to be back," she said. Ohakune Kindergarten started for the year last Tuesday with a full roll of 26 children at each of the morning and afternoon sessions. There are about six new children starting at the kindergarten.
