Officials attend GST Seminar

Hope Vaughan, county clerk for the Waimarino County and Raetihi Borough, and Edith Moore, borough clerk for Ohakune, went to a G.S.T. seminar in Palmerston North last week. The seminar was run by the Counties Association and was one of a series which they have been running throughout the country. Mrs Vaughan said that the subject was very complicated and a bit frightening. "We have to charge G.S.T. from 1 October this year and add 5 per cent to rates for the rest of the financial year. After that it will be 10 per cent." Ratepayers will have to pay the G.S.T. charge on top of any rates increase.
