GOLF
Nearly 100 people attended the Waiouru Golf Club during the weekend of 18 and 19 January for the Manihera Golf Trophy. I he Waiouru Golf Club and the Ruapehu Country Club played the 18-hole tournament on Sunday for the trophy given in memory of Junior Manihera, who died one year ago. The trophy was dedicated by Padre Sonny Melbourne. Mr Manihera worked at ATG Waiouru and was involved with the Waiouru Golf Club and the Ruapehu Country Club. Two bus loads of relatives of Mr Manihera and his wife, Doris, came from Rotorua and Ngaruawahia for the event. On Saturday Mrs Manihera and her relatives and
friends were welcomed on to the Waiouru Marae, where they stayed for the weekend. A nine-hole tournament was played that day and the following day the game for the Manihera Trophy was played which Waiouru won. Peter Pitts, seeretary of the Waiouru Golf Club, said that the tournament will now be an annual event.
