Name your own street?

Cr John Compton told councillors at last Wednesday's Raetihi Borough Council meeting that few Raetihi street names are relevant to local people. He said the street names at present reflected the old New Zealand trend using names of New Zealand historical figures. He suggested street names should be those of wellknown local people, such as established Maori families and old identities. Cr Punch jokingly suggested 'Punch Parade' and Cr Keith Haitana suggested 'Workman Wroundabout'. It was decided that it would be impracticable to change existing street names.
