A Raetihi man was arrested by Ohakune Police last Tuesday for burglary committed on 4 January at Raetihi. Some of the property has been recovered, including a television, other household electrical appliances and a lawnmower, said Constable John Fraser of the Ohakune Police. The man will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 5 February. ★ ★ ★ On Thursday 9 January, a local woman was arrested for possession of cannabis. She will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 5 February. ★ ★ ★ A man was arrested for wilful damage and assault on the police at a Raetihi address on Friday 10 January, said Constable Fraser. He will also be appearing in court next month. ★ ★ ★ Over the last three weeks a yellow McCulloch chainsaw, worth $689, was taken from a Plunket Street address. Relieving Raetihi Police Constable Wayne Mills said there are no leads as yet. ★ ★ ★ On Thursday 9 or Friday 10 January a ten-stud wheel was taken off a trailor in Alexandra Road, Raetihi. ★ ★ ★ Two shoplifters aged 14 and 15 years were apprehended by Raetihi Police on Monday 13 January after a Raetihi shopkeeper notified the police. ★ ★ ★ Following police enquiries into the burglary and wilful damage at Ohakune Primary School on Sunday 5 January two local youths, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Wednesday 8 January.
Damage estimated to cost $5000 to repair was caused including smashed doors, paint and ink splashed and squirted around, drawers and cupboards emptied. Much of the damage was in recently redecorated areas. The youths will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 5 February 1986. ★ ★ ★ On New Year's Eve Ohakune Police apprehended a 14-year-old Pipiriki youth and charged him with taking cars and with theft from cars at Pipiriki. He will appear in the Ohakune District Court on 5 February 1986. ★ ★ ★ A Pipiriki man was arrested on 1 January on charges of receiving stolen property. He will also appear in the Ohakune District Court next month. ★ ★ ★ On New Year's Day Ohakune Police answered a call and arrested a man on two charges of wilful damage at a house in Railway Road, Ohakune. He will be appearing in court on 5 February. ★ ★ ★ Overnight on 8 January, Reynolds Motors in Raetihi was burgled and car stereo equipment valued at over $1000 was taken. * ★ ★ Early in the new year vandals smashed five windows at the Raetihi Playcentre. Louvre windows, valued at about $ 1 00, were the only | items damaged. Relieving Constable Mike Martin of Wanganui said that three local children were apprehended in the second week of January and they were referred to the youth aid officer at Ohakune's police station. ★ ★ ★ Shearers' quarters at Mangamahu had burnt to the ground by the time Wanganui and Ohakune Fire Brigades arrived last Thursday. The alarm was raised at 6.25am and a fire engine from both Ohakune and Wanganui attended. Cause of the fire was unknown. The building was on Peter Pulson's property.
