Centre earns praise
The Ohakune Borough Council received a report from Catherine Dodd, of the Ruapehu Region Information Centre at their last meeting before Christmas. M rs Dodd said in her report that there has been a record increase in the number of visitors to the centre in the second half of 1985. In the busiest month of September there was an average of 73.52 people each day. A region tourist body was set up recently using the boundaries of the T ongariro United Council region, but with Ohakune, Raetihi, Waiouru and Taihape invited to join. "Now that a region has been formed we are able to apply to the Tourist and Publicity Department for a $5000 grant," her report said. The grant will be used to help draw up a marketing plan for the newly-formed region. Mayor Taylor expressed his appreciation for the work Mrs Dodd has put into the centre. "She has brought a professionalism to the centre which is much appreciated and very much needed," he said.
