Flightseeing with Air Buttercup
Buttercup, the alpine resort on the main highway through National Park, has added a new string to its bow — flightseeing. Proprietor Marshal Gebbie pilots the Cessna 206 on volcanic scenic flights during which hot jazz is played
through headphones, while Marshal occasionally whispers a soft commentary. The flights last 40 minutes and cost $50, one of the cheapest scenic flights around, and in-flight goodies are handed round at 10,000 feet. New accommodation is also being readied at Buttercup in the form of an old 50-bed unit, formerly the old guest accommodation at Tokaanu Hotel. The accommodation is being completely renovated to full tourist class and should be ready for the summer season.
