The spirit of Christmas was darkened at Ohakune on Thursday night when vandals took 52 of the 60 coloured lights on the Jubilee Park Christmas tree. The tree, which was supplied by the NZ Forest Service at Karioi, and the lights, by the Ohakune Christmas Carnival Association, were lifted by King Country Electric Power Board crane just two days beforehand. Ohakune Police would like to hear from members of the public who may have seen the lights being taken around 10.30pm on Thursday. ★ ★ ★ Five cameras with a total value of $10,135 were unlawfully taken from Price's Raetihi Chemist overnight on 1 9 December. Also taken were 23 pairs of sunglasses with an average value of $25 to $30, two pairs of binoculars, one with the brand name Ross and the other Hanimex, and $130 in cash. Brand names of the stolen cameras are: Kodak Sports 110, Kodak Pocket 200 110, Kodak K4 35mm, Nova 80 teleflash 1 10, and Ricoh AF5 35mm. ★ ★ * Overnight on 1 9 December 645.6 ltres of petrol were taken from Reynolds Motors, Raetihi. It is believed that offenders broke a padlock on one of the pumps which is used by ambulance and fire services. ★ ★ ★ Toys, jewellery and magazines were taken from Kapai Books, Goldfinch Street, Ohakune overnight on Wednesday 1 8 December. Ohakune Police would like to hear from anyone who saw persons in the area of Kapai Books of Jubilee Park around midnight.
