Waiouru School
The Duchess of Glouchester's visit in April was one of the big events of the year for Waiouru Primary School. The pupils performed Maori action songs for their royal guest and showed her how to use pois. She planted a tree in the school grounds and chatted with many pupils. More recently the school joggers club took part in the Round-the-Mountain relay and did well with a time of 12 hours, 48 minutes and 56
seconds, just behind the first women's team. The club's time was 1 1/2 hours faster than the year before. A book week was held at the school to encourage more interest in reading and parents brought books to the school and read to the pupils. Waiouru School came second in the districts schools athletics day held at Raetihi recently, and third in the districts schools cross country at Ngamatea School earlier in the year.
