Typing teacher leaves college

Ruapehu College teachers recently held a farewell for Daphne de Souza who has been typing and shorthand teacher at the school for six years. Mrs de Souza has been appointed to a positidn at the New Zealand Trades Certification Board in Wellington. The board sets examinations for apprentices at all technical institutes in the country and Mrs de Souza said that the biggest section was shorthand typing. As well as shorthand typing, Mrs de Souza also taught social studies, English and economics at the school. Mrs de Souza said she had been terrifled of living in the country before she came to

Ohakune, but she had thoroughly enjoyed her time at Ruapehu College. Principal of Ruapehu College, Michael Warbrick, said he was delighted that Mrs de Souza had been appointed to the position, but she would be missed as she had helped many pupils at the school. "She is a very caring person, nothing is ever too much trouble for her, especially when caring for the youngsters with difficulties," he said. Other departures from the school include Mr Warbrick himself, who has been appointed principal of Edgecumbe College, and guidance councillor, Stu Ritchie, who is going to Pukekohe High School.
