Fire veteran earns service award

In recognition of 18 years service to the Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade, Graham Dixon was presented with a gratuity cheque at the brigade's end of year dinner on Tuesday night. Mr Dixon, who retired from the brigade earlier this year, and is a life member, was presented with the cheque by Wanganui area commander, Ray Ford, who attended the evening with

his wife, Joan. Mr Ford said that the work of the Ohakune brigade was much appreciated and that he enjoyed coming to their functions because of the friendly atmosphere. About 80 members of the brigade and guests attended the dinner, which was held in the Lions Den. Neil Green was presented with his three-year certificate by ex-chief fire officer, Jim Chelley.
