Christmas story at Maungarongo Marae

The children of Maungarongo Marae Kohanga Reo performed the Christmas story at their Christmas concert recently. Over 20 children in Christmas costumes played the roles of baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the three kings, sheep and angels and sang Christmas songs in Maori.

The concert began with the song Ave Maria and before every song there were readings, mostly in Maori. Three-year-old Ngapera Akapita was baby Jesus in the crib. Father Christmas visited every child after the performance and then guests and the people of the marae enjoyed lunch.
